Maoists made their presence loudly felt in the district by killing a youth at Venus village of Raighar block after dubbing him as a police informer.
Sources said the Maoists reportedly dragged the youth Tunu Ganda from his house and shot him on his head on the village outskirts. The Red rebels left behind a poster written in Hindi which claimed that Ganda worked as a police informer which is why he was given “capital punishment”.
The poster further alleged that the Nabarangpur SP had directed Ganda to gather information about Maoist activities on the Chhattisgarh border. However, Umarkote SDPO Hemant Kumar Padhi refuted the claim that Ganda was a police informer.
Police reached the spot of the incident and launched an investigation to ascertain whether it was a handiwork of the ultras or there was some other reason behind the incident.
