A youth allegedly hurled an egg at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during a public meeting at the Suliapada High School field in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday.
The incident took place when Patnaik was present on the dais at the meeting to lay foundation-stones of various projects in the district.
The youth in the gathering hurled the egg towards the Chief Minister when the latter was getting ready to deliver his speech.
The egg, however, missed the target.
The youth, identified as Rushikesh Patra, a student of the MPC Autonomous College here and a Student Congress leader, was thrashed by BJD workers in the presence of police after he hurled the egg.
Patra was later taken to police station and detained there for questioning.
The Chief Minister cut short his speech at the meeting after the incident.
