The Gurandi police in Gajapati district on Friday arrested a youth on rape charge and forwarded him to judicial custody based on an FIR filed by the family members of the girl.
Police said that one Sudha Sabar, a resident of Andharjhula village under the Garbandh police station, lured the girl on a false promise of marriage and developed relationship with her through mobile phones.
Soon, the family members of the 20-year-old-girl found that she was pregnant for seven months. When the young man refused to marry the girl, her family first went to village elders for settlement of the matter. As this move failed, they family filed an FIR at the Gurandi PS.
