The headquarters police here on Sunday arrested a youth allegedly for swindling. He used his uncle’s ATM card for purchasing jewellery from a renowned jewellery shop in Bhubaneswar, police investigation revealed.

Reports said that one Jagannath Behera, an employee working in a Jagatsinghpur court, had lodged an FIR on June 6, stating that Rs 72,000 had been withdrawn from his savings bank account operating in the United Bank branch of Jagatsinghpur by way of using his ATM card.

Acting on the complaint, the police had probed the case and found that Jagannath’s ATM card had been used in a jewellery shop in Bhubaneswar and one Biswajit Swain had produced the ATM card while purchasing jewelleries.

Biswajit is a resident of Raghunathpur area and nephew of Jagannath. He had free access to the latter’s house by which he could cunningly know the PIN of Jagannath’s ATM card.

Meanwhile, Biswajit deposited the money in uncle’s bank account only to avoid arrest, but police acted on the investigation clues and arrested him from his residence and forwarded him to court on Monday.
