A 24-year-old youth was arrested on Friday on the charge of outraging the modesty of a college girl in Banabausanga forest near village Botalanda under the Sukinda police station of Jajpur district.
On Thursday afternoon, the accused, Dilip Mahant, of Bausakana village dragged the girl into the forest while she was returning home from her college by bicycle and molested her. Some locals rescued the girl after hearing her cry in the forest. The accused also snatched away the gold chain and mobile phone of the girl.
Acting on an FIR of the girl, the police arrested the accused under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a girl) and 379 (theft) of the IPC. He was produced in the court at Jajpur Road. The court rejected his bail application and remanded him to jail custody.
