The Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested a youth for allegedly supplying illegal arms in Old Station Bazaar area here. Police also seized an automated revolver from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Chandrasekhar Maharana (31) of Pradhan Sahi under Choudwar police limits in Cuttack district. He was booked under Section 25 (1B) of the Arms Act for illegally trading arms.
laxmisagar IIC Kishore Chandra Mund said that the night patrol team caught Chandrasekhar Maharana and two others after conducting a raid at Old Station Bazaar area late Saturday night.
“During interrogation, it was revealed that Chandrasekhar was supplying arms to two persons including an engineering student of a city-based private college,” Mund said, adding “Chandrasekhar’s accomplice Sushant Maharana is also an illegal arms dealer.”
The police have detained and are interrogating the accused student, while the third one has been let off in absence of any criminal antecedents.
