A 22-year-old youth allegedly ended his life while being on a video call with his girlfriend at Matha Sahi in the Chauliaganj area of Cuttack city on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Tapas Mohanty.
According to reports, Tapas, who was a Plus Three student of a college in Jagatsinghpur, and his girlfriend, a student of the same educational institution, had an argument during a telephonic conversation around 11 am.
Moments later, Tapas initiated a video call with the girl and hanged himself from the ceiling with a saree, which led to his death. The youth took the extreme step after locking the door when no one was present in the house.
On returning home, the deceased’s mother and sister spotted the body through the window. They informed the police about the incident, following which cops reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Police have seized the mobile phone of the youth and started an investigation into the incident.
