Special POCSO Court Judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar on Saturday, convicting a rape accused for 20 years’ imprisonment, also slapped Rs 10,000 as penaltyon him, in default, another year of jail term.
The convict Dinesh Marandi (22) of village Panpana (Polobasha) under the Khantapara police station had sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl of same village on January 15, 2021. He committed the offence after taking the girl on some pretext without knowledge of her parents. After the parents learnt about the incident, they were threatened and attacked by the accused when he was asked about the incident.
The girl’s mother lodged an FIR with police. Dinesh was arrested and tried under different Sections of the POCSO Act.
“The court awarded different jail terms which would run concurrently and penalties for different sections aggregating 20 years of RI and Rs 10,000-fine. Twelve witnesses were examined and 18 documents were exhibited. The court also awarded Rs 4 lakh as compensation for the victim,” said Special Public Prosecutor, POCSO, Pranab Panda.
