A youth was electrocuted while taking selfie on his mobile phone after climbing atop a stationary train bogie at the Balijuri railway malgowdon in Jharsuguda district on Fridaymorning.
The deceased was identified as Rajpal Gaurav Patra, a third year (civil branch) student of Government-run Jharsuguda Engineering School. He was staying in a private mess. According to reports, the victim came in contact with a high-voltage electric wire above the train while taking the photo and died on the spot.
Another student of the same engineering school identified as lokesh Das sustained injuries during the incident and was admitted to hospital.
Krutibash Choudhury, a teacher of the school said, “The deceased was not staying in the school hostel but at a private mess. It is learnt that the mishap occurred when he was out for morning walk. We have been advising students to be disciplined. We will advise them not take selfie putting life at risk.”
