Even as BJP national president Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the State on July 1 to review the party affairs here. Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress president lokanath Maharathy on Monday said that Congress youths would oppose Shah’s visit with protest programmes across the State.

“Amit Shah who has been playing with the emotions of the people of Odisha is visiting the State frequently. We demand resolution of the Mahanadi water issue at the earliest. Besides, Shah has not kept his promise of providing jobs to two crore youths and bringing back black money to the country.”

Ahead of Shah’s visit, a group of Youth Congress activities burnt the posters of the BJP national president at Master Canteen Square on Monday.

lokanath Maharathy stated the Shah would be opposed wherever he goes in the State.

However, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik expressed his displeasure over the Youth Congress’ course of action and said the Congress has no plan of protesting Shah’s visit.

“It’s the duty of the president of a national party to campaign for his  party; why should we oppose itIJ I am unaware or ignorant about the

activities of State Youth Congress on Monday and don’t know who took such a decision,” said Patnaik.

Reacting to the development, senior BJP leader Pratap Sarangi said, “If the Congress opposes Amit Shah’s visit, we would be a happy lot. What the Congress says doesn’t matter to us.”
