A dispute between two groups took a violent turn when a youth was brutally hacked to death in front of his father at Alasahi village under the Astarang police station in Puri district on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Dillip Swain.
Reports said Dilip’s family had a long standing dispute with some persons in the village. The incident occurred when Dilip, his father and associate, who had gone to resolve the dispute, were allegedly attacked by their rival group.
Following the incident, all the three were rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where Dilip was declared brought dead by doctors. The condition of deceased Dilip’s father and associate is stated to be critical. The Astaranga police are investigating into the matter while a car and knife was seized from the spot.
Demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the murder, locals on Sunday staged a demonstration by burning tyres.
