A miscreant was severely thrashed by locals after being caught while allegedly attempting to loot cash from an SBI ATM at Malada Bazaar under the Bhandaripokhari police station in the district on Wednesday night.
The youth was first spotted by a local of the area who immediately raised an alarm following which other villagers also rushed to the spot.
Dhala stated that the miscreant was not alone and his associates managed to flee from the spot. Getting information, the Bhandaripokhari police reached the spot and rescued the miscreant, who was found lying in an unconscious state outside the ATM.
“They were trying to break open the ATM as it was found damaged. The one who was caught and thrashed was hiding in a field close to the ATM,” informed a police official. Police also seized a Maruti Omni van that was parked a few metres away from the ATM and detained the driver for interrogation, said sources. Further investigation into the incident is on.
