A 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend allegedly committed suicide after their relationship was spurned by families in Balaranga village under the Binika police limits in Subarnapur district.
The deceased youth, identified as Achit Bhoi (22), and the girl belonged to the same village.
The two bodies were found lying on the backside of the Achit’s house in critical conditions on Thursday morning. They were rushed to a hospital in Sonepur, but doctors declared them dead.
Sources said the couple took the extreme step last night since Achit’s family members had fixed his marriage with another girl without his consent.

Similarly, in Fani-hit villages of Jagannathpur, Sishupur, Brahmagiri, Barudi, Mathapatna, Mata under Brahmagiri block, several persons have reportedly been infected with Cholera. It is suspected that due to unavailability of clean drinking water in the wake of cyclone, Cholera outbreak has now gripped the area.
Six persons were admitted to the Rebana Nuagaon CHC and all of them were released after treatment.
