Yet another under-trial prisoner (UTP) while undergoing treatment escaped from the SCB medical College Hospital here on Friday giving a slip to jail security staff. At least three UTPs have run away from the hospital within one year, questioning the security measures adopted by the jail staff.

Choudwar jail officials said one Pramod Mohanty (45) of Bidanasi in the city had been arrested last year on a murder charge. He was admitted in the TB ward of the hospital on Wednesday and was to be discharged on the day, a jail staff said after filing an FIR at the hospital outpost.

“Asking for to attend the call of nature, the UTP went to the ward toilet locking its main door from inside. When he did not return after a long time, we broke open the door to find that he has escaped by breaking the toilet window,” said the FIR filed by the jail warder RK Rath.

Two other UTPs had escaped from the hospital in June last year and February this year. One Pritam Bose, arrested for dacoity had escaped from custody by throwing chili powder in the eyes of one of the jail guards on June 20, 2015.

Another hardcore criminal, Ramzan Khan of Bhubaneswar had also escaped four months ago giving a slip to accompanying Bhubaneswar policemen. Khan had been brought here for treatment after he received gunshot injuries during a police encounter.
