A broad daylight firing at Dewan Bazaar under the lalbagh police station here on Friday spread panic among people as the city is in the midst of the puja season.
According to police, one Abdul Waheed of Dewan Bazaar has received gunshot injuries after he was fired at by two youths of adjacent Odia Bazaar. Police said the identities of the assailants have been established and they are also from the same community as that of the victim.
Sources said Muslim youths from both the neighbouring localities were at loggerheads for past several months and have come face-to-face on many occasions. “Culprits have been identified and they would soon be arrested,” said city Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Arora. PNS
