Yet another Bhadrak school lacks toilet, road

Published on:

The Bhadrak district administration has admitted there is no toilet in Kanti Sahi project primary school. The district project coordinator of SSA mentioned in a letter that there are two schools for the children of Majhigaon, Kheranga and Kantisahi. In Kheranga primary school there are separate toilets for boys and girls, boundary wall and play ground but in Kantisahi school these basic amenities are not available.

The response of the Bhadrak administration came after a notice was issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to Mass Education Secretary Usha Padhee to file a report on the amenities available in the school within a month. Padhee had directed the administration to prepare a report on status of the school and amenities available.

The NCPCR issued the notice acting on a petition filed by child rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy over the plight of children of Majhigaon. Tripathy had alleged that the apathy of the Bhadrak district administration has made the life of hundreds of children belonging to Scheduled Caste families of Majhigaon painful.

This Dalit-dominated poor village is situated in Nalgonda Panchayat of Chandbali block. The worst part is that there is no road to the school. It becomes very difficult for the students to come to the school during rainy season, Tripathy had alleged.
