Bargarh witnessed yet another suicide case involving a farmer who ended his life by consuming pesticide in his land. The deceased was identified as Seshadev Saa (54), a resident of Chicholi village.
The man committed suicide when his daughter is appearing at the annual HSC exam. Hence, all the family members are under severe stress after the death of the only bread earner. The family members alleged that crop damage and loan burden drove Seshadev to take the extreme step.
As per information, Seshadev had cultivated three acres of paddy in the last Kharif season. But the entire crop was damaged due to pest attack for which he was remaining depressed for last few days. Moreover, the loan burden of Rs18,000 from Bargarh Axis Bank, Rs42,000 from SBI and hand loan of Rs1.5 lakh made him further worried since he was totally incapable of repaying them.
Finally, Seshadev consumed pesticide in his land. Family members and villagers found him in a very critical condition and rushed him to the Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital where he breathed his last.
Meanwhile, the district administration has assured all help to the bereaved family members and dispersed Rs10, 000 instant help from the Red Cross. “All other helps will also be extended to the family members, including pension,” ADM Yudhisthir Naik said.
