The heavy rains caused by Cyclone Yaas exposed the alleged poor-quality work by the Monte Carlo, the contractor engaged by the Central Government to construct NH-520 from Rimuli in Keonjhar district to Rajamunda of Sundargarh district.
Sources revealed that one perennial spring named as ' Murganal' is flowing beneath the culvert of the NH-520 at Bileipada off Joda in Keonjhar to join the Sona river flowing at a close distance.
However, after the construction of the flyover starting from Bileipada, Murganal has been dumped with garbage obstructing free flow of water. The contractor didn't take notice even after the locals complained about it several times.
However, the rains triggered by Yaas cyclone created a flood situation in the area on Wednesday as the water couldn't be drained out in the clogged streamlet and inundated many houses nearby. It is discussed among the local people that even during 1999 Super Cyclone, there was no such situation.
Locals demanded that the NHAI take proper action against the contractor for such faulty design work of the flyover and irresponsible dumping of garbage in the streamlet.
