On the Gandhi Jayanti, students of XIMB engaged with denizens of the Sahid Nagar locality spreading awareness about proper waste management with focus on segregation at the source and importance of clean surroundings and maintenance of a healthy environment.

As part of an initiative of the Social Responsibility Cell of XIMB-XUB, volunteers and students went to about 120 households in the locality to make them aware of the 2-bin-and-1-bag system and various recycle methodologies at source itself.

The initiative was in sync with the vision to make Bhubaneswar a waste free city in years to come, which is one of the agendas of the Smart City project. The idea was brought into reality in collaboration with Sri Ganesh Recycling Industries which provided the students with necessary logistics and equipment. There were 60 volunteers in the team of 3, who shared the message of segregating wastes at individual households.

The kit of a red bin, a green bin and a bag was distributed among these houses to show support to this drive by the student community.

The student community was also joined in by various corporate personalities.
