On the occasion of the World Humanitarian Day, ‘Prayas’ the dramatic club of the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) performed a street play at the BMC Bhawani Mall.
The play focussed on female foeticide and broadly aimed at giving out a message to save girl children. It was a well organised effort on part of X-Stage, the cultural committee of XIMB in collaboration with Social Responsibility Cell.
The play witnessed a crowd of more than 100 people. It started with a bang, with students shouting out slogans which garnered quick attention of the crowd.
Nicely woven around a rural household, the story portrayed the agony and pain that a woman has to go through due to female foeticide and how she faces the wrath of her family and eventually has to abort her child. Heart wrenching slogans like ‘Ab naari ko sehna hoga, issi dard mein rehna hoga’ (Women have to suffer, tolerate the pain forever) and ‘Janam se pehle mat maaro’ (Don’t kill the girl child before birth) rang out loud amongst the crowd.
The play proved to be a complete crowd puller. It received much appreciation and was lauded by the crowd. A spectator, who is a mother of two daughters, said she loved the play and felt very warm about the message given out.
