The Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB)’s media and PR cell IlluminatiX organised an annual media conclave “Communiqué 2017” at the Xavier Institute of Management here on Sunday.

The topic of discussion was “Media and Privacy: A MismatchIJ” and aimed at addressing the inherent contradiction between media and privacy of media platforms like print, digital and entertainment.

Former CEO of Prasar Bharati Jawhar Sircar, senior journalist Dillip Satapathy, Biddable Media at Performics Director Shweta Shroff , novelist Sumrit Shahi and though leader Aditya Maheswaran attended as speakers. XUB’s Associate Professor Dr Sasmit Patra moderated the programme.

Satapathy threw some light on the technical aspect of the Right to Privacy being declared as a fundamental right. According to him, it is a fundamental right, but not an absolute one. In the war between Right to Privacy and Right to Information, The Right to Information will always be superior.

Jawhar Sircar explained that information relating to public figures should be presented only when it affects the public which can be achieved by questioning how this would impact them.

Shweta Shroff said, “The world has woken up to the right to privacy. It’s high time we do too”.

Sumrit Shahi said, “While it’s important to have a social network, at the same time have an individual moral compass and in the end Media and Privacy boils down to how we perceive it.”

Aditya Maheswaran said one shouldn’t be belittled by breach of his/her information.

later, panel discussion was held. Dr Sasmit Patra shared his insights and learning. Then programmes of prize distribution and annual article and poster making competitions were organised.

The occasion also marked the release of annual newsletter “Communiqué”. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Cordinator Ipsit Bibhudarshi
