The My Destiny, a Portugal-based surfer club, on Saturday began a Stand Up Padding (SUP) workshop near here for the upcoming India Surf Festival-2015, which is scheduled to be organised at the Ramchandi beach from February 6 to 8 with theme ‘Girl Power’. The IFS-2015 is aimed at empowering women in India by involving them in adventure, art and music, said My Destiny members which are organising the workshop. The workshop on first day covered fundamental of surfboard design and function, a demonstration on Stand Up Paddling followed by walk on water sessions.

“We hope the attendees have gained awareness and confidence in their approach to surfing. We have couple of girls coming tomorrow from orphanages and schools. People from all over India can come for the free workshop till the festival and can have the opportunity to walk on water,” said My Destiny founder Carolina Pereira.

IFS founder Sanjay Samantaray said it is inspiring to see that surfing is a tool that women and girls can use for empowerment. “I feel like I’m flying. It is so much fun. You are completely out of this world the moment you step the paddle. I definitely look forward to three-day festival,” said one of the attendees at the workshop.
