Normal functioning of all Government offices located in the vicinity of the Orissa High Court here was paralysed on Tuesday as the agitating lawyers of the city picketed in front of these offices after locking their main gates. Interestingly, no police deployment was made at any of the places where the advocates staged dharnas.
As was decided by the Orissa High Court Bar Association on Monday, lawyers in large numbers gathered in front of the Board of Revenue building, the office of RDC and in front of the district Collectorate at around 9 am in the morning. The lawyers also picketed in front of the main gates of the High Court and did not allow even the District and Sessions judge to go to his court. After locking the main gates of these offices, the lawyers sat on dharna holding banners and shouting slogans targeting the State Government and the police department in particular. The lawyers have been agitating since August 29 demanding arrest of the policemen who allegedly assaulted an advocate here on August 28.
