Construction works at the IOCl refinery project here were totally paralysed on Monday due to a dharna held by Eastern Odisha Industrial Development Council. Under the leadership of Golak Chandra Nayak, the union members held the agitation demanding rehabilitation and employment of the land losers and displaced persons.
Notably, the IOCl management held talk with the union representatives earlier over their demands but it was a failure. The union had threatened to intensify its stir as it was not satisfied with the stand of the IOCl. The IOCl consequently had sought the intervention of the district administration in the issue. The IOCl management had apprised the District Magistrate of Jagatsinghpur of its position and action taken in a meeting held on December 22 last. Finally, the District Magistrate had fixed a tripartite meeting to be held on December 27 at Paradip and advised the union to call off its stir.
However, the latter has remained unyielding so far. The IOCl is executing an infrastructure development project of 15 MMTPA refinery here at an investment of more than `29,000 crore. The oil company has appealed to all the stakeholders to extend necessary cooperation for maintaining peace at the project site.
