Workers may again launch stir in Joda

Published on:

Workers led by the CPI(M) are contemplating to gherao the Joda police station again to press for their longstanding demand for manual loading in the Bansapani railway siding in the Joda mining sector in Keonjhar district.

Instead of machine loading by contactors, the workers are demanding manual loading so that local people can get employment.

On Sunday, a group of workers came to the Joda police station to know the progress on the assurance given by the district administration on February 12 to have a meeting with the Collector regarding their demand.

“After sitting on a dharna for two days, a meeting with officers of the district administration including police officials was held on February 12. We had called off our stir on the assurance that a meeting with the Collector, who was said to be on leave at that time, will be fixed very soon. But no progress has been made so far,” alleged a worker.

When contacted Barbil Additional SP Dilip Sahani said he has advised the workers to meet the Collector in the grievance meeting to be held at Joda Block Office on April 11.
