Workers hold demo against K'jhar DLO's inaction

On Wednesday, construction workers  of Keonjhar district affiliated  to BMS (Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh) sat on a dharna in front of  the DLC (Divisional Labour Comissioner) office in protest against the inaction of District Labour Officer to register their names in the e-portal of Labour Department.

There are many schemes of both the State and Central Governments meant for the welfare of labourers in the unorganised sectors and one can avail such benefits after getting his name registered in the appropriate portal of the Labour Department. But in Keonjhar district more than 1,000 construction workers are deprived of benefits of the schemes for not getting their names registered," said BMS district president Doctor Mahanta.

He alleged that DLO, Keonjhar Surya Narayan Mali whose duty is to register the names  after getting the e- application of the construction workers is keeping  the matter    pending  for months together and the workers are not getting any relief although they are approaching him personally with their grievances.

Mahanta threatened to launch a mass agitation in coming days if their grievances were not redressed immediately.

Others who spoke on the occasion were State executive member Basanta Kumar Sahoo, district secretary Babu Lal Mahanta, Veena Pani Mahanta, Kabita Mahanta, Gayatri Jena among others.
