Workers' body seeks Min's intervention

The lingaraj Biscuits Workers Union members alleged that the owner of the lingaraj Biscuits factory in Chandaka Industrial Area here was violating the labour law openly. The factory produces Parle-G biscuits. About 400 workers are working in the factory.

The workers are forced to work 12 hours in the factory instead of working eight hours, said union general secretary Rajendra Prasad Barik. The labourers don’t have any salary structure here, while the factory is not concerned with the workers’ security, Barik said. At a Press meet here, the union demanded interference of the labour Minister and the labour Commissioner.

The union also submitted a 12-point charter of demands to the labour Minister, the labour Commissioner, the Khordha Collector, the District labour Officer and the DCP.

Union joint secretary Subala Charan Sahu, Krushnachandra Mohanty, Bulu Ranjan Barik and Mihir Pasayat were present, among others.
