A contractor worker was killed at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) after a 200-kg crane platform fell on him around 12.30 pm on Friday.
Source said Gyan Bahadur (35) a worker of Dipa Enterprises while working in Hot Strip Mill a crane platform plate fell on the back side of his head. Immediately he was rushed to IGH by co-workers where doctor declared him dead. He leaves behind two children and wife.
As per the provision, one of his heirs would get a permanent job in the RSP and ex-gratia. The fresh mishap once again exposed the security lapses in the plant. Notably, one and half a month ago a youth engineer was killed in same Hot Strip Mill while a 17 tonne weight iron slab fell on him due the magnetic failure of crane.
