A worker was killed in an accident in the Omfed milk processing plant here on Sunday when he was engaged in dismantling a defunct chimney of plant-II, police sources said. Deceased Pandu Senapati (48) of Bargarh district was employed as a contractual worker in the plant, sources said.
Senapati was engaged for dismantling of a 50-ft-high defunct chimney of plant-II with the help of a gas cutter. The chimney was expected to fall on the opposite side, but it unfortunately fell on him killing him on the spot. His body was sent to the Capital Hospital here for autopsy, said Chandrasekharpur police station IIC Sarat Kumar Sahoo, adding that the police have registered a case in connection with the incident. After the accident, tension prevailed in the plant premises for some hours and work in the plant was stopped, the police sources said.
