A worker, Srikanta Naik (37), was killed in an accident at the KJS Alluwalia Steel and Power plant situated near Barbil under the Rugudi PS of Keonjhar district late on Thursday night.
Sources said Srikanta died after a mishap in the conveyor belt. He was immediately shifted to a local hospital, and as his condition became serious, he was sent to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack where he was declared dead.
After the death news spread, workers sat in dharna in demand of compensation. The company authorities agreed to give a compensation of Rs 15 lakh and employment to a family member of the deceased.
This was the second death case due to accident in a factory in the area within a period of one month. The previous case was at the BRPl plant in which no case had been registered. This was due to an alleged unholy nexus between concerned officials and factory management.
