Work Secy's, engineers' arrest demanded

Various political and social organisations termed the Bomikhal flyover collapse as a manmade tragedy and demanded that the construction company owner and the concerned engineers be immediately arrested.

“The mishap reflects low quality work and corruption involved in it. It is a manmade tragedy. Criminal action should be initiated against the concerned construction company and the PWD department,” demanded Samajwadi Party president Rabi Behera.

He too demanded an inquiry into the incident by the Assembly House Committee or a High Court-monitored SIT. He thanked Chief Minister for announcing Rs 5 lakh for the deceased and free treatment for the injured.

Similarly, the Utkala Bikash Yuba Parishad and Odisha Nari Sachetana Mancha demanded that the Chief Minister resign taking moral responsibility for the mishap and Works Secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan be arrested.

Parishad Debiprasad Prusti, Prof Ajay Kumar Parida and Manch president Madhumita Rath, Mamita Garabadu and Ramesh Mishra in a joint statement accused the Works Secretary as the main accused in the incident, which took away valuable life of a young man and injured 15 others.

The Rajya Nagarika Samaj too demanded that the Works Secretary, the owner of the Panda Infra and concerned engineers be arrested at the earliest.

“Even as the completion period of the flyover was elapsed, the work was being knowingly delayed to enhance the project cost. There was a nexus between the Works Department Engineers and the Panda Infra owner for delaying the construction. Hence they all should be arrested at the earliest,” demanded Prakash Rath, Indira Das, Amiya Pandav, Debashish Mishra and Ganesh Panda.

They too demanded that the family of the deceased be given more money even as no amount would compensate the loss of life of the kin.
