'Won't let Urdu-Persian vanish in Odisha'

The All-Odisha Urdu Persian Teachers’ Association would take to the streets and approach the High Court in protest against the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government in streamlining Urdu, Persian language in schools and colleges and resolving various problems faced by teachers in the State.

The association took this decision at a State level workshop held under chairmanship of Sk Manwar Ahemad in the Jama Masjid premises here Sunday.

Teachers held discussions on three major issues concerning to problems being faced by them and promotion of Urdu-Persian language.

According to them, Maulabis and Fazils from the State Madrasa Board have been teaching ME and high schools for long. But the State Government has set ‘Alim with BEd’ as minimum qualification for teaching in these schools. Alim with BEd holders are not available in Odisha. There is no system in the State to impart BEd to Alims and Fazils either.

“Though we have been able to get a stay order from the HC, and the court has issued a contempt notice, the Government is still silent. We will take to the streets against the Government’s inaction,” said the association.

They said Urdu teacher posts have been vanished from colleges as students having Urdu subject are reaching the level due to neglect of the State Government. Though the Central Government had given funds for appointment of teachers, the State Government appointed only 19 teachers in Baleswar district and didn’t appoint teachers in other districts. The period of the Central scheme ended on March 31,2017. But teachers appointed by managing committees are still teaching without a salary. “We demand that the State Government take steps to get the Central scheme again,” said the association.

As per the practices, Urdu CT teachers were teaching in upper primary schools and Maulabis in Class VI to VIII. Now the Government has directed that Urdu CT teachers would teach upto Class VIII while they don’t have requisite qualification for imparting teaching in those classes. Besides, the Urdu CT teachers aren’t capable of teaching Urdu MIl taught in ME schools.

“If the State Government doesn’t withdraw this order, we will approach the High Court,” the association said.
