'Women's organisations must be strengthened'

Women organisations and communities need to be strengthened in the State to fight for their rights,” said feminists attending a two-day State-level International Women’s Day ceremony held by the National Alliance for Women Odisha (NAWO) here on Saturday.

Gracing the occasion, women leaders like Jayanti Manjari Rath, Pramila Swain, Tapasi Praharaj and Saila Behera said women are on the right path to realise their longstanding demands of equality and end of violence against them. “We have witnessed a positive development in our struggle, and we will celebrate the success on the Women’s Day,” said the leaders.

The theme of the day this year is “Equality for women is progress for all”. Around 500 women activists from across the State attended the function. The women leaders raised different issues relating to land rights for women, empowerment and economic and political rights to women.
