Koraput’s noted tribal women leader Paidamma unveiled a women’s magazine Nirvaya here on Sunday.
The magazine contains writings of many renowned authors and poets like Kabita Barik, Aparna Mohanty, Sailabala Mahapatra, Pabitra Mohan Dash, Sukanti Nanda, Mahasweta Devi, Gargi Sengupta and Kunjabehari Upadhyaya. Through their writings they have tried to make people aware about the plights of women.
Academician Birendra Naik, Sucheta Mishra and Sailabal Mahapatra elaborated on the issues relating to oppression against women by the male chauvinist society. The speakers opined that the alarming rise in female foeticide may bring a catastrophic situation in the balance in men-women ratio.
Magazine editor Bhabani Bhuyan stressed the need of creating awareness among people regarding the importance of women in society and their right to live with respect.
