Women's car rally bats for parity with men

Woman is no less; the power of woman cannot be underestimated. This was vindicated in an all-women’s car rally organised by the Carnival, a leading creative agency, at the KIIT campus on Sunday. Women of different age groups and statuses attired in different dresses participated in the rally. They drove from the KIIT campus to the Seventh CRPF Battalion.

The city witnessed the rally with a motto ‘pledge for parity’ to promote gender equality, two days before the International Women’s Day. The rally also created awareness about traffic safety.

Around 150 women car owners registered in the event, and each car had around four of them.

A group of four ladies with bridal costumes caught the spectators’ eyeballs. Some of them also wore the costume of the Commissionerate Police, Traffic Police and different chunky accessories.

Various social messages were written in the four wheelers like ‘go green’, ‘stop violence’ and many more. Chief advisor of the foundation Namrata Chadha said, “We organised the rally for the first time in the State, and it was a successful event.”

The rally was not for driving only; it showcased the participation of women of playing different roles like a daughter, s daughter-in-law and a mother-in-law, Chadha said.

She also said, “We are always crying against atrocities on women, but sometimes we should have fun like this. Women can do anything in the society.”

“To showcase women empowerment and to show people that women are also good drivers like men, we organised this rally,” said Carnival director Subrat Kumar Dash.

Manaja Panda and Bijaya Bhat took first positions in the best dress and the best theme, respectively.

Commissioner of Police YB Khurania, activist linkan Subudhi and sportsperson Anuradha Biswal were present, among others. The event, supported by the Seva Prayas Foundation, was flagged off by KIIT and KISS founder Dr Achuyta Samanta.
