Women ransack liquor shops on city outskirts

In order to stop liquor business in their locality, irate women of Ghatikia on the outskirts of the city ransacked liquor shops near their residences on Friday. They also nabbed a vendor and his wife selling liquor and handed them over to police.

To end liquor sale once and for all, the women, after having failed in repeated pleadings, destroyed the shops. While ransacking the country-made liquor shops, the women folks detained Mahendra Mahankud and his wife and then handed them over to the police. When the women group were tearing off signboards and breaking the shutters of the liquor shops, the owner’s son protested. But the angry mob was not in a mood to listen to the police or plea of owner’s son. There was a scuffle between the women and the police in front of the liquor shops.

“Due to the liquor shops in our locality, the anti-socials are indulging in mischief. They also affect peace in the area,” said the women. Recently, the women folks of Bhoi Sahi of Gurujang in Khurda district had ransacked liquor shops and destroyed wine bottles protesting liquor business in the area.
