Women now active in crimes in K'pada

The arrest of Reshma Bibi, daughter-in-law of Sk Hyder two days back, has confirmed the role of females in the underworld activities and crimes.

Sources said since Munna alias Sk Kadir was arrested by police and has been cooling his heels in jail, his wife Reshma has taken the charge of his crime network. To ensure that her spouse’s gang remains active, Reshma had been operating the syndicate, informed Kendrapada SDPO Nrushingha Charan Swain.

Not only Reshma was operating the syndicate, but she also was directly involved in a several crimes. She was the prime member in the gang which hatched plans for crimes and directed the members how to operate. She also provided sophisticated arms and weapons to the gang members for committing the crimes and after completion of the crimes, the gang members deposited the arms to her, said the SDPO.

According to Kendrapada SP Sarthak Sarangi, as per the investigation, it has been found that the arrested Reshma was involved in supplying arms to other districts. While a sophisticated weapon consignment was delivered to Paradip, another was provided to Cuttack for using it in crimes.

Sources said as Paradip and Jajpur districts have recently become a hub of industrialisation, so, in order to extort money from the industrialists and contractors and fix tenders by terrorising the contractors, Reshma was operating the crime syndicates.

According to sources, earlier during a police inquiry, it was revealed that to collect extortion money from the parties, the gangsters generally engaged women, who used to collect money from the parties by going to the spot and later disbursed the consignment as per the direction of the gangsters as nobody raised any doubts on them.

It may be noted here that Aul police in 2010 had arrested Reshma from a bus near Tinimuhani bus stop for her involvement in the murder of Shahnawaj Khan, a business trader of Aul on May 24, 2010. She was arrested for her involvement in making conspiracy with her uncle and her spouse to kill Shahnawaj as the deceased was opposing Munna to settle at Aul and spread his criminal activities in the area.
