Irate locals, mainly women, of Kuchiladanga under the Bhograi police station in Baleswar district on Thursday ransacked a country liquor joint, its ingredients and also destroyed contrabands worth of several lakhs of rupees of a liquor mafia.
According to the aggrieved villagers, Gopal Ghadei of their village was carrying out illegal trading of country made liquor, foreign liquor and ganja for quite some time in the area.
Due to the easy availability of liquor and contraband, not only the women folks were suffering from financial difficulties because of their addicted husbands and family members, they were also subjected to mental and physical torture.
Even they lodged complaints with the enforcement agencies like excise and police officials against illegal activities in their locality, yet no action was taken, the locals alleged.
Finding no other means to contain the menace, they took the decision to act on their own and demolish the establishment selling liquor and ganja, they said.
Palpable tension prevailed in the area after the incident.
