Women CRPF company in R'gada on cards

During the celebration of 77th Raising Day of CRPF at 4th Battalion on last Tuesday here, Commandant Manoj Kumar Sharma addressed the jawans by saying that CRPF was becoming visible everywhere.

While almost all the State Governments are demanding more and more platoons of force; still there is short supply, he said.

Sharma further told, "In CRPF, we don't take time to get ready as we are ever ready. In response to Kashmir's turmoil, we could airlift four companies of CRPF personnel within no time from Visakhapatnam.

Hence, mobility is our strength. For the first time, we are going to have a full fledged women company in Rayagada. We are exploring a proper place for infrastructure specially suited to the women force."

Three brave women pilots, for the first time in the history of India, were included in IAF to flow fighter planes. To take the process forward, installing a full-fledged women CRPF Company in Rayagada will be a historic step towards gender parity within this paramilitary force. It will also give a facelift to the usual charge against this men dominated force. It may also help bringing this force closer to the women folk of tribal communities who are usually banked upon by the left wing extremists in the area, he told.

As Rayagada district has also got the first-ever woman district Collector, a full-fledged women company will have a far reaching effect, he maintained.

Sharma then gave away gallantry awards to a few CRPF personnel. The celebration culminated with a scintillating anthem written by eminent lyricist Javed Akhtar exclusively for CRPF during the year 2014.
