Upset over the inaction of the Mahila Police Station officials on an FIR lodged by a 21-year-old woman who has sustained 90 per cent burn injuries, the State Progressive Women’s Forum on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene in the matter.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, forum chairperson Mamata Samatray said, “In-laws of Sradhanjali Nayak of Bhimpur under the Airfield Police Station on November 14 tried to kill her by pouring kerosene on her resulting in 90 per cent burn injuries to her.
Subsequently, the forum on November 15 lodged an FIR against the victim’s husband and others for trying to kill her.”
Unfortunately, the police instead of arresting the culprits are sitting idle and even do not start inquiry. The victim is now undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.
Samantray urged the Chief Minister to take up the issue seriously to ensure justice to the women fraternity.
