Members of three women’s associations in Gajapati district locked up the United Bank of India (UBI) branch at the Mohana block headquarters on Tuesday alleging misbehaviour of its manager towards them.
The office-bearers of Jyotirmayee and Pragati Self-Help Groups at Kanteikoli village under Mohana panchayat and Bimala Women’s Association at Dhepapada village alleged that branch manager Bhabani Mishra misbehaved with them while they were approaching him for getting their loans sanctioned.
The members of the three associations have been included in the Government BPl category since last eight months. As per the Government declaration of supplying seed capital to these Mahila Mandals, various Mahila Mandals of Mohana block had applied for loan. All the necessary documents for the loan were deposited with the bank.
It is alleged that while the loan was sanctioned only to the Bimala Women’s Association, the rest two associations have faced hurdles in getting their loans sanctioned.
The irate members locked up the bank for two hours. later, the police reached the place and negotiated with both the sides, following which the bank work resumed.
On the other hand, Mishra refuted the allegation, saying he did not misbehave with anyone and the loan would be sanctioned as per the rules on Thursday.
