Jayanti Mallick (25), a native of Barunsingh had been staying in a rented accommodation  under the Khantapara police station in Baleswar district for about one and half a years. She was living alone in the house belonging to one Ganesh Nayak.

They poured water to douse the flame and tried to open the door which was locked from inside. They broke open the door only to find her charred body underneath the debris. The room was having mud walls and asbestos roof. The walls caved due to heat of the flame.

The house owner informed the police about the incident. The police after arriving at the spot asked forensic experts for conduct examinations. The police also informed the victim’s parents, who were staying 15 km away, and also sent a vehicle to bring them to the spot. After arrival of her father and brother, the body was removed and sent for autopsy to the District Headquarters Hospital here.

The deceased was initially working in a private hospital at Kuruda as a receptionist and subsequently after quitting the job recently working in a private clinic near the Cinema Square here. Villagers maintained that the victim was not having good term with her family members and a married person used to visit her frequently.

“We couldn’t find evidence of entry of any outsider into the room. The case is being investigated as that of unnatural death acting on the information of the house owner,” said Sadar police station IIC Jaswant Samal.
