On the fateful morning, when the Shisu Mandir vehicle reached Maheswata’s residence to pick up her children the house was found locked from inside. Then, Maheswata’s father-in-law Karunakar Barik knocked the door and not getting any reply alerted the neighbors who broke open the door of the house only to find Maheswata hanging from the ceiling fan and the children too.

Then, the villagers called up the police who immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. later, police sent the bodies to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy. In the afternoon, senior police officials including a scientific team visited the spot and began probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, alleging murder of the trio, some villagers including Maheswata’s parental family members resorted to a road block at Sadhei Chhak on Cuttack-Jagatsinghpur road demanding proper investigation into the case. After the police and administration officials assured the agitators of a proper probe, the road blockade was lifted.
