The district administration has decided to felicitate a woman of Soro on the Independence Day for her humane approach towards a sick man.
Jhuna Baidya (45), a resident of Kharida village under Soro police station, had shown exemplary courage and humane face during time of crisis. “We have decided to felicitate her on August 15 in recognition to her service,” said the district Collector Pramod Das.

When his condition worsened, Jhuna, who has her husband and two grown up sons, initially took him to the Soro community health centre on July 12.
She got him admitted in a pseudo name stating his name as Chentu Baidya. However, when his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital the next day.
Jhuna and her son while accompanied the serious patient on July 13 about 12.30 am, he died while undergoing treatment after multiple organ failure. The body was handed over to Jhuna by the hospital authorities. She asked for a Mahaprayan vehicle to ferry the body to her village. She, accompanied with her a son, took the body to the burial ground in Mahaprayan yet faced difficulties from both the Hindu and Muslim communities initially to perform his last rites.
She took the body to a burial ground, meant for the Muslim community. The local Kabarstan committee examined the body (whether Muslim) and accepted it.
The committee in the presence of their cleric performed his last rites (buried as per his religion). “Whatever may be the reasons, Jhuna showed an exemplary courage and humane face. Not only she took the man, living in solitude, for treatment, but also got his last rites performed as per his religion overlooking the social stigma. She deserves acclamation for her commitment, compassion and benevolence,” said district Collector Das.
