State BJP on Saturday demanded exemplary action against ruling BJD’s Bari MlA Debasis Nayak and his supporters for their alleged involvement in the attack and kidnapping of a distressed lady. At the same time, the party also sought Nayak’s resignation.
Addressing a Press conference here, BJP State vice-president Surama Padhi slammed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his silence over the unfortunate issue. She said it is a case of atrocity against a woman in which BJD MlA and former Minister Nayak and his party men are culprits, demanding that criminal proceeding against them should be taken soon.
Victim Sushanti Samal after failing to get relief and financial assistance for damage to her house caused by the mid-October cyclone and subsequent incessant rains, had come to the residence of MlA Nayak last week to redress her grievances. Instead of taking steps for her rehabilitation, she was beaten up by Nayak’s constituency representative Safiquddin alias Tali, Bari Block Chairperson Bharati Behera, peon Tuna, Minakhi Samal and others.
Even she was later kidnapped while she was going to file an FIR in the Bhubaneswar Mahila Police Station and seek justice from the State Women Commission, Padhi said. Seeking Chief Minister’s intervention in the matter, the former Minister urged him to order a high level impartial inquiry into the incident and bring Nayak in to the ambit of the probe.
