Woman, son die as wall collapses in B'ngir

A woman and her six-year-old son were killed after a wall collapsed on them at Rugudipada Municipality colony in Balangir district on Tuesday.

The woman, Jasmit Markami, her son Bitu and six-month-old grandson were sleeping when a portion of their rented mud house caved in on them. later, locals rescued all three and admitted them to the Balangir District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared Bitu brought dead. While the six-month-old baby sustained minor injuries, critically-injured Jasmit died when undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, it was alleged that a local, named Prabha Ray, has constructed several mud houses in the colony by encroaching Government land and rented them to many poor families. Sources said since the houses are constructed illegally, the district administration has no data regarding them. The administration was yet to comment on the matter.
