I, Nivedita Samal, earnestly request the administration and police through media to come to the rescue of my eight- year-old son and mine as our life is at risk,” has pleaded Nivedita whose son’s and own life are under threat from her ‘estranged’ husband and in-laws.
“For the past few months my elder sister and I have been getting threatening calls from different numbers used by my husband to finish me and my son,” added Nivedita, who has been fighting legal cases against her husband and in-laws, both at Vishakhapatnam and here, for torturing her.
Nivedita has been staying with her parents here since September 2, 2012, after escaping from the clutches of her husband and in-laws.
According to reports, Nivedita Samal (32), a native of Rayagada, had been married off to one Satyajit Baliarsingh of Puri in 2004 and after that she had been living with her husband in Vishakhapatnam.
After some time, she had been subjected to physical and mental torture, allegedly for dowry, by her husband. She had also been once hospitalised there as her condition turned critical due to the torture.
Then she had lodged a police complaint against her husband and following which, Satyajit had been arrested under Section 498A and forwarded to court. But later he had been out on bail after a compromise was reached between the couple in court.
However, the case is still pending in court there and Satyajit has been asked to appear before it regularly, the reports said.
On August 31, 2012, after Nivedita came back to her in-laws’ house at Puri, she was again subjected to assault by her in-laws, after which she returned to her parents’ house at Cuttack, sources said, adding that however, her husband and in-laws forcefully kept her son.
Then she lodged a complaint in a local court here alleging torture on her and forceful confinement of her son by her in-laws. At the behest of the court, the Mahila police registered a case and started inquiry into the matter. Accordingly, on Sunday, police raided Nivedita’s in-laws’ house at Puri, seized the dowry items and recovered her 8-year-old son.
However, Satyajit escaped to evade arrest. Police had detained Biswajit Baliarsingh, elder brother of Satyajit, for interrogation.
During the raid police also seized the fake death certificate, issued in the name of Nivedita Samal by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation in 2009. Basing on that certificate, Satyajit has married to another woman with two daughters from her previous marriage.
As per the death certificate, Nivedita had died in a private city hospital. Police are investigating into it.
Now Nivedita seeks police protection for her and her son in her fight for justice, as she is afraid to move out of home.
“In this situation, how can I fight my case against my husband and in-laws here as well as in Vishakhapatnam when I feel the risk of my life,” Nivedita said, adding “Hence, I sincerely urge the police administration to give me and my son protection.”
