The 24-year-old woman of Kupari under the Khaira police limit of Baleswar district was allegedly abducted by a spurned lover identified as Manas Behera (30) of Gadapokhari village in the district from Raj Mahal Square in Bhubaneswar on June 28 evening. Manas is being interrogated by police.
The woman was staying at her uncle’s house at Chintamaniswar and working at a private company in Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar. Manas had allegedly been harassing her several times on roads.
Even, he had threatened to commit suicide if the woman did not agree to marry him. After her parents rejected Manas’ proposal, he had threatened to kidnap her.
Manas, after allegedly abducting the woman, kept her in an unknown place. The victim’s father had lodged a complaint with the laxmisagar police against Manas.
However, police took no further action after filing a missing report. After the victim’s father contacted DCP Satyabrat Bhoi, the case was transferred to the Capital police station, under which the abduction had occurred.
It is yet to be disclosed from where the woman was rescued by the police in the city. Police said everything would be clear after investigation into the case.
