In a gruesome incident, the body of a woman with severe stoning marks on her head was found at Nirakarpur village in Khordha district on Wednesday morning.
It is suspected that the 45-year-old woman, a resident of Harijan Sahi of Nirakarpur area, was raped and murdered by some miscreants.
The woman was working as a sweeper in the Nirakarpur market area. She had gone to work this morning and was murdered, alleged her family members.
What is disappointing is that the incident occurred at a place just 200 metres away from the Nirakarpur police station.
The police have started investigation into the murder.
Primary inquiry indicates that the woman might have been raped before being killed with her head smashed in a boulder, police sources said.
