Woman pushed from train rescued at Choudwar

Even 24 hours after rescuing a badly-bruised woman from a paddy field near Choudwar here, the city police have not been able to ascertain her identity, apparently for her incoherent statements.

The middle-aged south Indian woman was found lying on a paddy field near a train line, about 20 km from here, on Monday. She was apparently pushed from a running train.

Following information from locals, members of a city-based orphanage with the help of police rescued the woman. She is currently undergoing treatment in the Psychiatric Ward of the SCB Medical College Hospital here. The woman has sustained multiple injuries and appears to be in a deep mental shock, said doctors.

“We are investigating into the matter after registering a case,” said Cuttack DCP Sanjib Arora, adding that an ACP-level officer is looking into it.

Initial enquiries revealed that the woman could be from Karnataka. She is perhaps married having two kids but an I-card retrieved from her shows that she is a student of a degree college in Hyderabad.
